3 Perfect Recipes From Simple Food Storage

                                                                                            By Jeanette Vale

Let’s say, you’re not able to shop for 30 days…. what kinds of meals would you be reduced to?

I found a photo of a beautiful breakfast (above) and I wanted to see if I could recreate it with my food storage.

The cost of groceries is making me play these games.  You will see by the end how my version of this breakfast turned out and if I had to go to a store to buy anything.

I find food storage boring and therefore I don’t eat or rotate it very well.  But this turned out to be a delicious experiment of mastering the first of three recipes!

Today’s spotlight is a hearty breakfast.  I’ve chosen to go meatless on this.

If you are following along, use your favorite biscuit recipe.

On Saturday I served this  to my family.  They were thrilled.

I used America’s Test Kitchen flaky biscuit recipe.  I didn’t realize it would take two sticks of butter!  Then I made the sausage based on this youtuber….Chef Ani.

Hollandaise Sauce Recipe

This hollandaise sauce took another whole stick of butter and three egg yolks!

10 Tbsp Unsalted Butter

3 Egg Yolks

1 Tbsp Lemon Juice

½ tsp salt

Pinch of cayenne

Melt butter in a saucepan on low heat.  Add egg yolks, lemon juice, salt and cayenne to a blender for 30 seconds.  Drizzle in melted butter running on low for 15 seconds or until it is emulsified.

Spray a cupcake pan and add 1 Tbsp of water to each cup.   crack eggs into the cups.  Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.

Plate Up!

Cut the flaky biscuit in two and have them face open.  Place a sausage on each,  place an egg on each.  Ladle hollandaise sauce over the top.  Garnish with chives and smoked paprika.

Items I used from my food storage:

TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein)

Flour

Powder milk and vinegar (to make  buttermilk)

Eggs from my chickens

Oats

sugar

Spices

Maple syrup

For what was on my plate, I’ll bet the breakfast cost me under $2.00.  Three weeks ago I ate out at a popular restaurant  and my bill came to $35.  That was with the tip, and it was sausage gravy and biscuits for one person.

Reporting on flavor:

The TVP sausage patties had me worried.  I can tell when I am eating TVP.  I think it has a flavor to it.  And I used TVP that was really old.  Guess what…it was delicious.  Super delicious.  I followed Chef Ani perfectly in creating the sausage patties.

The hollandaise sauce was on the thin side, but still rich,  it all tasted wonderful together. I wondered how the maple syrup would blend with the lemony hollandaise.  They were lovely together.  Relatively speaking.  I’m sure if Gordon Ramsey tasted my version he would scrape it.

My body was not accustomed to that much flavor or fat.   This recipe is not one that I will repeat.  It put such a dent in our butter and eggs (3 sticks of butter and 8 eggs).

Surprisingly, I didn’t have to buy anything from the store!   I had everything on hand.  Booyah!

Next week: I’ll be making a copy cat version of Whole Foods TTLA!  TempehBacon, Lettuce, Tomato, &  Avocado Sandwich.  You must come along!
